Review - Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious
Product: Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Smoothing Shampoo, Smoothing Conditioner and Defining Cream
Tester: Kate Shannon
Verdict: My fine, wavy hair needs a bit of help to form sensible looking curls and I found this range of products did the trick. The shampoo and conditioner are both lovely and left my hair feeling soft and manageable, while the defining cream helped to keep my hair looking curly throughout the day.
They smelled great too.
I believe these products would be equally as successful on really curly hair and there are lots of other products in the range if your hair is thicker or dry.
Mark out of five: 5
If you have used the Bumble and bumble curl conscious range we would love to hear your views and comments

Quality Shampoos versus Retail Shampoos
In my last blog I explained how having a shower at the gym opened up a whole train of thought about how products can make you feel good, but when I say that I mean only certain types of products.
Well, this morning at the gym I brought in a small travel size of Bumble and bumble tonic shampoo that I’d promised to Jamie, one of the guys that goes to the gym, following a conversation we had about my blog about shower gels.
Anyway I gave him the shampoo and he used it there and then when having his shower. It was quite amazing the reaction that he gave me because he immediately said his hair felt so much better plus he loved the smell. I then started to give him some advice on how to get the very best out of your shampoo. MAXIMUM WATER , MINIMUM SHAMPOO.
That’s what most people do wrong they don’t wet their hair enough and then have to use too much shampoo to achieve a lather, so my advice is spend plenty time soaking the hair, drench it in water so that every inch of it is soaking wet then add a little shampoo and WORK FOR THE LATHER that way you use less shampoo, get more lather but very importantly you’ll give yourself the best shampoo you’ve ever had every single time!
I then reminded Jamie about what happens if you use inferior shampoo. You see cheap shampoos are cheap because they have a soap base or, to get technical, a sodium lauryl sulphate base. This STRIPS the hair of it’s natural oils as well as dirt and grime, this results in rough feeling hair, flyaway and full of static and oftentimes a dry flaky scalp.
In order to minimise the negative effects, silicone is added but the most inferior available because manufacturing costs have to be kept to a minimum. In a low quality silicone the molecule is so large it adheres to the hair shaft but is reluctant to leave so the result is that when you first use it you will witness a great shine for the first two to three shampoos then slowly but surely you will experience a build up of silicone which will have certain tell tale signs such as dullness, rough to touch, difficult to style, taking longer to dry, whilst a great shampoo with a larger manufacturing budget will have a sodium laureth sulphate base which cleanses more thoroughly but more gently much the same way that a cleanser versus a soap does.

Why Buy Quality Hair Products
Funny how simple things get you thinking.
Yesterday morning, as normal, I was having a shower at the gym after a great workout.
Now normally if I was having a shower at home I’d use a soap but it has to be a quality brand, something that smacks of luxury, something that feels good, smells good, works and is easy to use, Clinique, Joe Malone, Liz Earle. Okay I admit it, I’m a product junkie. But I’m absolutely bald so it’s some time since I’ve had the buzz of buying and using hair products, on myself at least.( bumble and bumble seaweed when I have a 12 o’clock scalp shadow)
Anyway I’d been to Boots buying some razor blades; unfortunately razor blades are a bit like toothpastes you don’t get the same buzz that you get from buying perfume, after shave or great products for your hair or skin.
Whilst making my buying decision I thought soap’s a hassle at the gym, a bit messy. I reckon I need a shower gel. I tried to look for the best gel, the most concentrated, maybe even the most expensive. But guess what? They didn’t have anything that fitted the bill so I bought the best of a bad lot.
I didn’t get any positive feelings, I didn’t look forward to the first time I’d use it, as you do with a styling product or a perfume.
Buying that shower gel wouldn’t satisfy the urges of a shopaholic but it might serve the purpose. It would be interesting to see how it would perform.
What was I looking for in a shower gel? I wanted something that has a sensation, that would make me feel clean and refreshed and it had to smell good. I suppose something that produced lots of lather yet was concentrated. That must be my criteria for a great shower gel.
I was disappointed when I discovered that I needed lots of product to get a little lather. The fragrance was nonexistent and therefore no great feelings, I wish I’d never bought it!
I caught myself having these thoughts and feelings because it made me wonder how our clients, YOU would feel when buying shampoos and styling products.
In the course of a day I want to experience as many positive feelings and thoughts as is humanely possible and if having great products is one of them then why not?
My clients give me feedback on products every single day and tell me that they love using products or it’s got a great fragrance or “it gives my hair lots of body” or “my hair’s so much easier when I use that.”
That’s what great products do they make life easier, there less expensive in the long run, they give pleasure, make us feel good and are state of the art.
The very best available, surely that’s what we should have and nothing less!
At the end of the day there are two reasons that people buy hair products from a chemist or supermarket:
1 That’s where they’ve always bought it.
2 That’s where you can buy cheaper products.
Not a good enough reason for me particularly when I miss out on the more important benefits.
Ask your stylist for a hair and scalp analysis and prescription on your next visit, you’ll be really glad you did.

WHY DOES MY HAIRDRESSER ADVISE ME TO GET MY HAIRCUT EVERY 6 WEEKS EVEN THOUGH I’M DETERMINED TO GROW IT?
Your hair’s long and your dying to grow it longer yet your hairdresser says, “ You must have it cut every 6 weeks.”
“Is that simply because they want me to return to spend more money? It just doesn’t make sense to me………” You think to yourself.
Well, here’s the reason.
Hair at any length should be cut every six weeks because hair grows on average half an inch a month however whilst some hair grows some rest and eventually some fall out. That could take anything from three to seven years for that whole cycle to evolve.
This means that your hair after four weeks can have a difference of half an inch between each hair, more after six weeks. That results in straggly ends, but it has a different effect depending what type of hair and what style or length you have.
In truth someone who has long shoulder length hair could comfortably stretch to eight weeks (but definitely no longer) because they may not see any change in volume or styling behaviour but leave it longer then the wear and tear aspects kick in.
Are you flat ironing your hair on a daily basis? If you are, you have to get those wasted ends manicured at the very least, giving your hair more weight at the ends, which is vital particularly if you have fine hair plus it will condition by removing split and worn ends.( read ‘Frying Tonight in our blog archive)
The fact is that if you don’t and you leave it longer then there will have to be more cut off on your return, because the difference in lengths will be greater therefore the ends will be stragglier and yes you’ll have longer hair, but surely you want longer hair with real quality and abundance and shine.
If your hair depends on layers to give it volume and texture then you must have it cut every six weeks because your hair will start to get flatter and limp and will prove to be harder to work with.
On a final note having your hair cut every six weeks will ensure that your hair always look good and healthy plus it will be easier to style.
After all you don’t wait till your face gets dirty before washing it !
At Migele Experience we have prices to suit every budget from £50 to £24 and if you ask for a META student then you’ll pay as little as an unbelievable £10.
You’ve no excuse! Have a precision haircut every six weeks and ensure that you stay looking and feeling great

Last Night A Treatment Saved My Life
I’ve found that most clients don’t know what treatments are or what they can do for you.
It’s our fault really because sometimes we find it difficult to explain things without getting overly technical. So let me have a go now.
Treatments are solutions to issues you may be having with your hair. These issues may be the colour fading quickly, a lack of shine, a lack of volume, hair breaking, to name but a few. Equally they could be scalp related causing greasy hair or a flaking scalp.
Quite simply, if you receive the correct treatment you will enjoy the ultimate hair condition.
But to understand how you would benefit from a treatment we must carry out an in depth consultation that includes a scalp and hair analysis as well as a discussion about your hair frustrations.
You see all of us have particular scalp and hair problems. In my experience very few clients when asked how their hair and scalp was, have said it was PERFECT.
Most clients have at least one problem, which requires attention. And I have yet to come across a problem that cannot be resolved by a treatment.
My wife actually has a treatment twice a week. The benefits she enjoys are that her colour lasts longer, it gives her a shine that she cannot achieve any other way and it gives a great boost in volume. As an extra bonus, she also finds that her hair is much easier to comb through.
But let’s take a minute to think about the rigours your hair is subjected to. Most people put some form of styling product in their hair. Everyone’s hair is subjected to our challenging weather conditions and if you’re lucky also enjoy a holiday or two abroad. Some people enjoy physical exercise be it sports, a workout at the gym or a swim in the pool.
And let’s not forget that if your hair is shoulder length or longer, the mid lengths and ends have been around for a year or more so it seems only right that you give them some extra attention.
A TREATMENT will provide that extra attention whether it’s a scalp or hair problem.
In fact many of our clients have dual treatments either for the scalp and hair or for the inside and outside of the hair. If you’ve ever experienced one of these you would be in no doubt whatsoever that the results are absolutely fantastic and you’ll feel fantastic
Once you’ve experienced the benefits of a great treatment and you enjoy what will virtually seem like a new head of hair, then you will introduce treatments as part of your hair care routine.
And another thing is that the benefits from many treatments remain for up to 5 washes, depending on the condition of your hair, that means there’s no need to condition for the next 4 to 5 shampoos which means they are very cost effective as well.
So next time you visit the salon treat yourself to a treatment. In fact if you’ve never had one then mention this blog and we’ll give you one FREE.
If you are one of the many clients that enjoy a treatment, why not drop me a line and tell me what you think

Talk To A Hair Colour Expert
Hasn’t colour changed so much over the last few years? It used to be that when someone had their hair coloured it was very obvious, for instance many women would choose to have streaks, which were the lightest of blonde pieces. Achieved by pulling these pieces through a rubber cap resembling a bathing hat.Not only was it painful, almost as if each hair was being plucked out, but it wasn’t very flattering or comfortable.
Sitting wearing a cap, which in fact had to be skin tight to ensure the process was successful.
The results weren’t always the best. Usually they were applied to hair which was really too dark for the process creating a result which resembled a tiger.
Thank God these days are gone, products have improved dramatically as have the results.
Anyone who chooses to have their hair coloured today will find that many salons out there are specialists and you really can look ten years younger with expert colour.
The actual colour service has become an enjoyable experience. Those horrible streaks have been replaced by highlights, which can be so varied in the results that can be achieved.
You can have highlights, which are subtle and simply add shine or something more dramatic.
The shade chosen should suit your natural colour and your skin tones, after all you would choose curtains that match your wallpaper, but the colours chosen should also match your personality.
Colour is make up for your hair and when you choose hairdressers who really understand colour and are EXPERTS it’s amazing how much better you can look and feel.
All our stylists are trained to provide expert advice on the right hair colour for you however we also have Helena and Amber who have taken the colour service to the next level by completing a Degree Course in colour.
This extensive course has provided them with the knowledge and experience to achieve amazing results and not only are they passing this experience on to the entire team, they are also helping clients to get the looks they have always wanted.
If you are thinking about colour for the first time, why not take advantage of our superb colour virgin’s offer where you can save up to £10 off your first colour service.

I Don’t Want To Look Like an Elvis Presley Impersonator
If you’re a man and your bald there’s no reason to read this, that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to, but if you stick with me all will be revealed.
I want to tell you about a brand NEW service that we‘ve started to promote in our salons and it’s got me thinking about a load of questions I would ask my male clients. That is, those with grey hair.
Let me be more specific, men with scatterings of grey, and the very first signs of grey.
If that’s you ask yourself this.
How do you feel about your grey hair?
Do you hate it and would like to eliminate it or do you quite like it?
Do you think it makes you look older?
What does your partner think about it?
Have you thought about colouring your hair but were concerned that you’d end up looking like an Elvis Presley impersonator?
Unless a male client was asking for fashion colour such as touch colour or the odd blonde highlight then full head colour wasn’t something that I’d discuss with them probably because I reckoned it would look false. Think of more subtle bad taste examples rather than an Elvis fake.
Paul McCartney for instance. Very fake colour.
Then look at The Rolling Stones. I never thought for one moment that they didn’t colour their hair but they must do. Isn’t that a funny thing about the Stones how do a bunch of guys get together and none of them are bald and only Charlie Watts has succumbed to the full head of white. Interesting, or is just me?
Anyway where was I ?
If you want to BLEND in or reduce your grey rather than eliminate it then L’Oreal’s Cover 5 is for you. It will last for around 6 weeks, it only takes 2 minutes to apply and it’s on your hair for only 5 minutes and it’s applied at the backwash rather than you being exposed to every other client in the salon.
Personally I think it’s a winner and if I wasn’t the aforementioned BALD man then I reckon I would have it. Do it!
And so that we can put our money where our mouth is I’d like to offer any of you Blog readers a special deal for Cover 5.
If it’s the very first time you’ve ever had this service we’ll give you it at half the price that is £ 7.50 rather than the normal price of £15.
Just call us today and mention ‘Blog offer’ on 01592 207540 for Whytehouse salon or 01592 201212 for Tolbooth salon.

A refreshing approach to hair colour
WHAT’S A COLOUR REFRESH SERVICE?
This is a question that lot’s of clients will be asking our team in the next few weeks.
Why? Because next week we are launching a brand new colour service that will be welcomed by lots of our clients.
You see I’ve always thought that each business is in existence to provide solutions to peoples problems and that’s why I’m constantly listening to what clients say to me, in this case colour clients.
Why’s my colour fading? Or “Can you make my hair shinier?”
So we decided to come up with a colour service that would be fast, reasonably priced and would address these problems, that service is ‘Colour Refresh.’
What is it?
It’s a treatment which takes approximately 15 minutes extra when added to another service and lasts for around 10 shampoos (if your using a good quality, low detergent shampoo).
It’s perfect when you find yourself half way through your colour cycle and it’s starting to lose its richness. This is especially true if you have been wearing red shades, the colour refresh will do exactly as the name suggests it will refresh your existing colour rather than change it.
Do you have to have coloured hair to have a colour refresh? Not necessarily, it will make a subtle difference to natural hair; you could say it’s a natural result on natural hair. So if you’re someone who doesn’t want the commitment, it’s perfect.
We are launching a promotion on Colour Refresh this week, Thursday 7th August.
A blow-dry with colour refresh would normally cost £32 during the promotion this is on offer for half the price at £ 16. A colour refresh on it’s own would normally be £ 12.50 so it’s very affordable when you add it to your normal cut and style appointment.
Another great service at a great price.
The Male Revolution
There’s a quiet revolution going on under our very noses and even those involved don’t realise it. I’m talking about men’s hair.
It used to be that men would be happy to visit the traditional barber and would have a preconceived idea of a price they would pay and hey, it wasn’t much.”“What more than a fiver! NO way!” There are probably still guys that feel that way, but it’s changing. We have a new generation growing up in our midst and they’ve been growing for the last 5 years. It’s becoming obvious that there’s a gap in the market for men who want more than the traditional barbers skills. Now before any barbers that read this get up in arms, I recognise that barbers do have a skill, lots of them have a skill of cutting hair in a short time but there’s only a haircut, no experience. Some guys want to escape they want to relax from the stresses and strains of modern life in the same way that their wife’s and partners have done for the last twenty years. Yes you can do it to.And as we find ourselves in a credit crunch should we be cutting back on every single luxury? No way. Apparently one of the areas that has come down in price is clothes so therefore if we save in one area let’s ensure we receive the very best in another after all our appearance is the thing that will lift our spirits and ensure that we have a positive attitude. So guys I challenge you. Invest in a good quality shampoo, long term you’ll be glad you did, short term you will enjoy hair that looks and feels better instantly and great styling products so that your barnets easy to handle at home and obviously at the heart of all of this a great haircut.Call today for an appointment Whytehouse 01592 207540 or Tolbooth 01592 201212
